Nunu's Hair Regimen

My hair regimen has been pretty much the same all throughout my natural hair journey thus far. I'm a mother of three handsome boys so I've never been a product junkie. I can't afford all those high dollar products and personally I feel that it's really a waste of money especially when you're starting off and have no idea what your doing with your hair so, I've always have keep my regimen simple.

So what is Nunu's regimen?

Shampoo and Condition
Nunu get's a shampoo once a month. I use Shea Moisture Organic Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Shine Shampoo. This shampoo is amazing! My hair loves it. It contains coconut oil which hydrates and protects hair from heat and chemical damage, SMOC & HC Curl and Shine Shampoo also contains silk protein, which reduces breakage, strengthens hair, adds smoothness and silkiness and another key ingredient is neem oil, which not only strengthens hair, it adds shine as well. After shampooing I follow up with conditioning. My conditioners varies. I'm cheap so whenever I'm in the dollar store I load up on VO5 or Suave Conditioners. I always get the ones that state moisturizing conditioner.

Deep Conditioning
I deep condition my hair in between hot oil treatments. I use Shea Moisture Deep Treatment Masque or my homemade DC (honey, VO5 conditioner, olive oil). Before I add the Deep Treatment Masque I add coconut oil, which penetrates the hair shaft and works with the natural hair proteins, producing stronger hair. My second deep conditioning method is a homemade DC recipe I swear by.(honey, VO5 conditioner, olive oil)  It makes my hair feel so soft and conditioned. The honey is excellent for conditioning and it helps to bring back the shiny and lustrous look to my hair. Olive oil is contains squalene which is penetrative. It penetrates deep within the hair follicle and does not leave an oily feel behind it. Also olive oil contains vitamin A and vitamin E which repairs cracks along the hair shaft. It clears up dry scalp, its a shiny booster and enhances hair growth so the combination of honey and olive oil really helps to promote healthy hair.

Hot Oil Treatment
I do a hot oil treatment in between deep conditioning. In my hot oil treatment I use olive oil, grape seed oil, jojoba oil and black jamaican castor oil. All these oils combined are great for reducing dry hair. I like hot oil treatments because they condition my hair and scalp, keeps my hair nice and shiny and they reduce frizz and helps me keep a nice little bounce to my hair for the remainder of the work week.

Co-wash
I co-wash my hair every week except for the week I shampoo. Co-washing is simply washing my hair and scalp with conditioner. Like I stated above I use lots of cheap conditioners like suave and VO5 that states moisturizing conditioner.

Pre-poo
I Pre-poo my hair every week before co-washing or shampooing. I pre-poo one of two ways; I use my homemade DC recipe or simply use coconut oil and water from one of my spray bottles. I section my hair off in 4 to 6 sections then spray each section with my water mixer, usually just plain water or water with vegetable glycerin, apply coconut oil from root to tip or apply the DC mixer from root to tip, apply a plastic bag or plastic shower cap, throw on my turbie twist towel and let it sit on my hair for about 30 mins to a hour. Some naturals sit under a dryer or steamer during this process which is fine too.

Pampering
I pamper my hair after my last rinse on wash day. I use the LOC ((Leave in or Liquid ) liquid leave in (Oil) coconut oil (Cream) shea butter whip or SM Curl Enhancing Smoothie), method in the winter and the LO (leave in conditioner and coconut oil) method during the summer.

Nightly Routine
My nightly routine varies depending on my hair style. If I'm wearing a protective style like two strand twists or flat twists I will lightly mist my hair with my water mixer of olive oil, vegetable glycerin and water and wrap my hair with a satin scarf and my satin bonnet. If its not in a protective style I may do the LOC method or the LO method depending on what my hair needs and always, always wear a satin scarf and/or bonnet. If not my hair is a complete matted down mess.

One thing I've learned is always listen to your hair. It doesn't take long to identify when to moisturize your hair. My natural hair is very thick and constantly needs to be moisturized so I can't go more than a few days before I have to add moisture, three days max.

Some people many look at my regimen and say it's a bit much but this is what has worked for me thus far in my natural hair journey in this order; weekly pre-poo, shampoo condition (once a month), co-wash (the remaining 3 weeks of the month) , deep condition or hot oil treatment, pamper after every final rinse and prepare my hair nightly for bed.

This regimen has given me great growth from BC to 10 months natural.
